Like you never would have thought that anything was wrong with her. You never would have thought that she was sick because she was just always up playing and laughing,” said Peyton’s aunt Jordan Sterling.When Peyton was an infant, a case of Parvo led to a serious heart condition, and at just 16 months old, she underwent a heart transplant.Her family says that at the age of three, she was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin lymphoma. She fought hard, and at 6 years old, she was cancer-free. “One time I was asked, ‘Who was my hero?’ I said, ‘My granddaughter,'” said Peyton’s grandfather, Ray Sterling.On July 28, after her health took a sudden turn, Peyton was admitted to Cincinnati Children’s, where she was placed in a medically induced coma.Her family said three weeks later, she unexpectedly came to life and was herself again for a few days.They say it was an unexpected gift amid this tragedy, a chance to say goodbye. Her family said they are incredibly thankful to Children’s for all that they’ve done.
