The much-awaited Drishyam 3 has officially gone on floors in Malayalam with superstar Mohanlal returning as Georgekutty. Director Jeethu Joseph, who created this blockbuster franchise, recently confirmed that the Malayalam version will release before the Hindi remake. Speaking to Q Studio about the possibility of both versions clashing, he said, “First, Malayalam Drishyam 3 will come. If Bollywood tries to do something on its own, then we will have to go the legal way. But I am confident that such a situation will not arise.”

This statement has created a buzz among fans of both Malayalam and Hindi cinema. The first Drishyam was a record-breaking hit in Kerala, and Drishyam 2 released directly on OTT during the pandemic, receiving great response. With Drishyam 3, expectations are sky-high, and fans are eager to watch it on the big screen.

On the Bollywood side, the franchise has had a mixed journey. The Hindi remake of Drishyam was only an Average grosser at the box office, but Drishyam 2 turned into a  Blockbuster, largely because of its strong Story and gripping suspense. Naturally, the third installment with Ajay Devgn is also highly awaited.

The concern, however, is that if the Malayalam version releases first, the suspense and twists might get revealed, which could weaken the impact of the Hindi remake. In today’s time, audiences are far more open to watching South Indian films with subtitles, so the Hindi film might lose a section of viewers who already experience the Story in Malayalam.

Still, the core Hindi audience may wait for Ajay Devgn’s version. Much will depend on how the makers plan the release. Some even believe both versions could release around the same time, making it a unique cinematic moment.
