Shanks inspired Luffy to start his crew and go out in search of the legendary One Piece treasure. He had wanted to become a pirate since he was just 7 years old, and he set out to put together the Straw Hats crew when he turned 17. Luffy began to make waves by recruiting new members in his quest to become the Pirate King.

After the Marineford War, one of the best One Piece arcs, there was a two-year time skip and Luffy turned 19 when he returned to Sabaody Archipelago. From then on, Luffy is shown to be 19 during his adventures on islands, from Fishman, Punkhazard, and Dressrosa up to the Elbaf arc.

The 19-year-old Luffy climbed up to Yonko status with a 3 billion Berry bounty, making him the youngest Yonko in history.

2. Roronoa Zoro: The Swordsman

Roronoa Zoro was 19 years old when he became Luffy’s first crew member. The latter asked him to join his crew at Shells Town and ever since then, he has been sticking with Luffy through thick and thin. Zoro aims to become the world’s greatest swordsman after his childhood friend Kuina passed away when he was 10.

Sticking true to his word, Zoro sharpened his skills and grew his sword collection in his journey to becoming the best. After the two-year time skip, Zoro entered his twenties and is 21 years old right now. He is already a fearsome swordsman and has sliced through many powerful adversaries. Thus, let’s see when he will be crowned the World’s greatest swordsman in One Piece.

3. Nami: The Navigator

Nami debuted as a cat burglar in the Orange Town when she was 18. She was a war orphan, similar to Nojiko, and Belle-mere San adopted both of them. Nami’s backstory was explored in the Arlong Park arc where we witnessed 10-year-old Nami losing her adoptive mother and joining the Arlong Pirates. She only worked with them in order to earn back her village from the tyrannical Arlong.

Fortunately, the OG Straw Hats helped her and she became a part of the crew as the navigator. She still pursues her goal of drawing a map of the One Piece world. 4. Usopp: The Sniper

Usopp was left alone with his mother by his father Yasopp when he was just a baby. When Usopp was 7 years old, he had to lose his mother to an illness. Usopp grew up by himself until he met the Straw Hat Pirates in Syrup Village when he was around 17 years old.

He joined the crew as the sniper and set out to become a brave warrior of the sea. Even though he is cowardly in the initial stages of the story, he luckily become a famous figure known as God Usopp. Usopp is 19 years old after the time skip and fans highly believe he will make a breakthrough in the ongoing Elbaf arc.

5. Vinsmoke Sanji: The Cook

Every pirate crew needs a great cook onboard the ship. The Straw Hats didn’t recruit one until the Baratie arc. Sanji was already 19 by the time we met him at the Baratie Restaurant. He shared the same goal as Chef Jeff, which is to find the All Blue.

At the start of the story, we didn’t know the exact series of events that brought Sanji to Chef Jeff’s pirate crew. Only after he had joined the crew and had plenty of adventures did we learn the truth about his backstory. Sanji had to run away from his family when he was just 8 years old due to the constant abuse from his father.

But thank goodness, he was found and raised by Jeff and later boarded the Going Merry. He is 21-years old in the story after the time skip and major events like his marriage at Whole Cake Island.

6. Tony Tony Chopper: The Doctor

Who would have thought a talking raccoon reindeer would be recruited as a Straw Hat? Tony Tony Chopper had a rough life from a young age but was taken in by Dr. Hiriluk when he was 9. Chopper unfortunately lost the doctor soon after being adopted and was in the care of Dr. Kureha for the next few years.

When the Straw Hat Pirates arrived at Drum Island to save Nami from sickness, they came across Chopper. He was a tiny reindeer who aimed to become a doctor who could cure any form of illness in this world. To our surprise, before Luffy, Nami asked the 15-year-old Chopper to join the Straw Hats. Well, he did and the rest is history. He is currently the youngest Straw Hat as he is only 17-years old in the story.

7. Nico Robin: The Archaeologist

Nico Robin was primarily introduced as a 28-year-old antagonist in the pre-time skip period of One Piece. But author Oda introduced a twist in the series and let her board the Straw Hats ship after the Arabasta arc. Robin’s complete backstory was explored during the Ennies Lobby arc.

Out of all the Straw Hats, Robin was the one who experienced a truly tragic childhood. Her home country was nuked by the World Government, and her mother and friend lost their lives as well. She experienced this tragedy when she was just 8 years old and was branded the Devil Child.

But ever since she made friends, the Straw Hats, her life was on track as the Light of the Revolution. She is currently 30 years old and had a reunion with Saul in the story recently. She is the main piece in unraveling the puzzle of the Void Century and the One Piece as she can read the poneglyphs.

8. Franky: The Shipwright

In line with Robin, Franky was first introduced to us as an enemy of the Straw Hat Pirates during the Water 7 arc. He was earlier known as “Cutty Flam” and was abandoned by his parents when he was only 10 years old. It turned out to be a blessing for him as he was taken in by Tom-san.

His experience as one of Tom’s workers enabled him to join the Straw Hats as the shipwright when he was 34. He is already living his dream as he wants to build a ship and travel the whole world. He is one of the oldest Straw Hats as he is a 36-year-old following the time skip.

Recent vivre cards clearly revealed that Franky’s father was none other than Queen from the Beast Pirates.

9. Brook: The Musician

Brook wasn’t always a living skeleton. Before he ended up like this, Brook was a part of the Rumbar Pirates. He and his crew were met with misfortune and lost their lives due to a poison attack. Brook was 38 when he died with his crewmates. However, Brook had consumed the Yomi Yomi no Mi devil fruit, so he got a second chance to live a life as a skeleton.

After around 50 years in the story, the Straw Hats crossed paths with Brook in the Florian Triangle. Luffy, without a second though, asked Brook to become a member of the Straw Hats. Hence, Brook joined the crew when he was about 88 years old.

Post the time skip, Brook is 90 years old, which automatically makes him the oldest member of the Straw Hat Pirates.

10. Jinbe: The Helmsman

The Knight of the Sea, Jinbe, stayed true to his promise and joined the Straw Hat Pirates before the Raid in Onigashima. When Luffy met Jinbe, he was a 44 years old and imprisoned in Impel Down. Even before he became an official member of the Straw Hats, Jinbe was helping out our captain and crew.

Jinbe is a former Warlord of the Sea who severed ties with ex-Yonko, Big Mom, to become a crew member of the Straw Hats. He firmly believes Luffy boasts what it takes to become the King of the Pirates. The veteran pirate is currently 46 years old and wants to put an end to the discrimination against Fishman once and for all.

11. Nefertari D. Vivi: The Honorary Member

There has always been a debate about whether Vivi is a member of the Straw Hat Pirates. But when the creator of the series and Captain Luffy consider her as a crewmate, who are we to say no, right? Vivi was just 16 when she was working as an undercover agent for Crocodile in Baroque Works.

She was later revealed to be the princess of the Arabasta kingdom. Vivi was an active member of the Straw Hats during their quest to overthrow Crocodile and reinstate the Nefertari family. Even though Vivi couldn’t abandon her duties to join the Straw Hats, she is still considered a member by the crew and fans.

Furthermore, she is confirmed to be a member of the D clan and may rejoin our favorite pirate crew since we are in the final saga.
