OpenAI’s newest model, GPT-4.5, is coming sooner than we expected. A new reference has been spotted on ChatGPT’s Android app that points to a model called “GPT-4.5 research preview.”
At the moment, OpenAI offers several models, including GPT-4o, GPT-4o with scheduled tasks, o1, o3-mini, and o3-mini-high. This can be confusing due to the variety of choices.

As a result, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman recently announced that ChatGPT will simplify its model names and release versions like GPT-4.5, GPT-5, and so on.
Today, some users have spotted an announcement in the ChatGPT beta app that states, “Try the GPT-4.5 research preview—Pro users now have access to our newest, largest model.”
Clicking on the alert does nothing for now, but this seems to confirm that GPT-4.5 is close to release and may soon roll out to more users. However, the catch is that it would be available to Pro subscribers only, at least initially.
ChatGPT Pro, which costs $200 per month, offers fewer limitations than $20 Plus or Free plans.
ChatGPT web interface improvements
Beyond the references to GPT-4.5, AI researcher Tibor Blaho has spotted a few additional experiments in the ChatGPT web interface.
For example, OpenAI is planning to move features like deep research, canvas, or image-based interactions to the file picker.
This is a part of a redesigned interface that could allow you to easily select your model and switch between features.
In addition, if “deep research” mode is enabled, ChatGPT’s input field now reads: “I can research in the background to deliver a detailed report. For best results, include: any relevant sources, desired areas of focus, files related to your research, and “provide as many details as possible for best results.”
It’s unclear when the GPT-4.5 model and other improvements will expand beyond the ChatGPT Pro subscription. OpenAI is expected to share more details soon.
