Pawan Kalyan’s latest action drama They Call Him OG, also starring Emraan Hashmi, Priyanka Mohan and Prakash Raj, opened in cinemas this Friday with huge expectations. Directed by Sujeeth, the film is one of the biggest releases of the year in Telugu cinema. However, while the movie managed to rake in impressive numbers in South India, its performance in the Hindi markets has been disappointing.

On day one, They Call Him OG grossed around ₹45 lakhs nett in Hindi. For a big-ticket release backed by stars like Pawan Kalyan and Emraan Hashmi, this figure is extremely low. The lack of promotions in North India, along with limited recall value of the star cast among the Hindi-speaking audience, seems to have worked against the film. Trade experts believe that unless the film shows a miraculous turnaround in the coming days, its Hindi run might wrap up quickly.

In contrast, the movie’s all-India opening has been very strong. Reports suggest that it collected close to ₹90 crore nett on its first day, thanks to extraordinary advance bookings and massive fan support in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The grand scale of action, combined with Sujeeth’s stylish presentation, clearly worked in its home territory. However, there is a drop in the morning shows on Day two, which is quite normal trend there, but still the numbers shouldn’t really fo too low.

With mixed word of mouth and weak Hindi business, the film’s long-term box office journey remains uncertain. All eyes are now on the weekend collections to see whether They Call Him OG can sustain momentum beyond its opening day.
