Ransomware gang Inc today claimed responsibility for a December 2024 cyber attack on Taylor Regional Hospital in Hawkinsville, Georgia. The attack forced hospital staff to resort to paper medical charts.
At the time of the attack, hospital officials said there was no indication that patient records were compromised, but that an investigation was still ongoing. To prove its claim, Inc posted a sample of what it says are images of documents stolen from the hospital on the gang’s website.
Taylor Regional Hospital has not verified Inc’s claim or acknowledged a data breach. We do not yet know what data was compromised, if the hospital paid a ransom, how much Inc demanded, or how attackers breached the hospital’s network. Comparitech contacted Taylor Regional Hospital for comment and will update this article if it replies.
Who is Inc Ransomware?
Inc Ransomware emerged in July 2023 and targets a wide range of victims in healthcare, education, and government. Its methods involve spear phishing and exploiting known vulnerabilities in software.
Inc has claimed 71 confirmed ransomware attacks since it began, compromising more than 4 million records. Its largest confirmed target was another healthcare company, OnePoint Patient Care, which leaked more than 1.7 million records.
Inc claimed another 149 unconfirmed attacks that weren’t acknowledged by targeted organizations. 13 of those were claimed in 2025. Last night, the group also claimed an attack on Kilgore College in Texas, which announced technical disruptions on its computer systems and phone lines on December 17, 2024.
Ransomware attacks on US healthcare
Ransomware attacks on US hospitals, clinics, and other care providers can both steal data and lock down computer systems until a ransom is paid for a key to unlock them. Hospitals might have to cancel appointments and divert patients until systems are restored, which can have life-threatening consequences. Doctors might be unable to communicate with patients, write prescriptions, or access medical records.
In 2024, Comparitech researchers logged 128 confirmed ransomware attacks on US hospitals, clinics, and other care providers, compromising 21.8 million records.
Aside from Inc, Ransomware gang RansomHub recently claimed three such attacks on BayMark Health Services, HCF Management, and Community Health Northwest Florida.
