Snow emergencies declared across southern Wisconsin for over the weekend

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – Multiple municipalities in southern Wisconsin have declared snow emergencies for over the weekend.

City of Beloit

The City of Beloit has declared a winter weather emergency beginning at afternoon Saturday, Nov. 29 to noon Sunday, Nov. 30.

During that time, vehicles are prohibited from parking or standing on city streets, according to Beloit city ordinance.

The city reminds residents to move their vehicles from the streets to a driveway or an approved off-site designated emergency parking lot:

  • Krueger Park Upper (Hackett Street at House Street): East Lot
  • Krueger Golf Course (1611 Hackett St.): South Lot
  • Wootton Park (4th Street at Maple Avenue): Entire Lot
  • Rotary Center (1220 Riverside Drive): Between Designated Signs
  • Jones Pavilion at Riverside Park (access via Portland Avenue): Entire Lot
  • Heritage View Parking Lot at 627 Pleasant: Between Designated Signs
  • Third Street (South Lot): West Side of Lot Along Fourth St.
  • Third Street (North Lot): North End of Lot Between Designated Signs
  • Ironworks (Fourth Street): Center Area Between Designated Signs
  • West Grand Avenue Lot (229 W. Grand Ave.): Center Area Between Designated Signs
  • Telfer Park (2100 Cranston Road): South East Area Between Designated Signs

The Beloit Police Department and/or Code Enforcement will ticket and/or tow away any motor vehicle, trailer or semitrailer found if violating the winter weather emergency declaration at the owner’s expense, according to the city.

City officials also remind residents to remove trash and recycling carts from the street.

Residents are encouraged to stay home and make only necessary travel with extreme caution, the city stated.

Beloit residents can register for email or text alerts for winter weather emergencies here.

Village of Blue Mounds

The Village of Blue Mounds has declared a snow emergency beginning at 11 p.m. on Saturday. It will end at 7 a.m. on Sunday.

Officials said no parking is allowed on any street in the village during the snow emergency.

People who have no off-street parking available are encouraged by the village to find alternate parking.

The village said any vehicle that is on the street during the snow emergency could be ticketed or towed.

City of Evansville

Evansville officials have declared a snow emergency beginning at 10p.m. on Saturday. It will wrap by 8 a.m. Sunday.

No parking is allowed on either side of the city’s streets, and all vehicles must be parked on private property or in designed public parking areas.

City officials said vehicles that are parked in restricted areas will be ticketed and towed.

City of Lodi

A snow emergency will be in effect in the City of Lodi beginning midnight on Saturday, Nov. 29 and will expire at noon on Sunday, Nov. 30.

For the duration of the event, no motor vehicles, trailers, boats or similar items are allowed to be parked on any street or public alley.

The downtown business district is exempt from the provisions of the ordinance.

The city also asks that sidewalks are cleared within 24 hours after the snow is done falling. Snow cannot be pushed from the sidewalk or driveway into the street as it is a violation of City Ordinance 295-5C.

Village of McFarland

The Village of McFarland has declared a snow emergency beginning Friday, Nov. 28 at 8:00 p.m. It will end Sunday, Nov. 30 at 8:00 a.m.

Officials say during the snow emergency, vehicles are not allowed to be parked on public streets. That is to allow for snow clearing.

The village says residents must park their vehicles in driveways or other private property.

Vehicles on public streets during the snow emergency are subject to citation or removal at the owner’s expense.

The village also says alternative parking is available at the Municipal Center Parking Lot or the public parking lot at the northeast corner of Farwell St. and Exchange St.

City of Monona

The City of Monona has declared a snow emergency beginning at 8 a.m. on Saturday. It will end at 10 a.m. on Sunday.

During the snow emergency, the city said vehicles are not allowed to be parked on any street.

Street parking or alternate side parking is allowed on parts of St. Theresa Terrace, Gordon Avenue, Wallace Avenue, Valorie Lane, and Anthony Place. To find out where you can pick in those areas, click here.

If you are parked anywhere else not designated on that map, the police department could ticket or tow your vehicle.

People are encouraged to put their vehicles into parking lots for city parks until the end of the snow emergency. This includes parking lots at Ahuska, Lottes, Winnequah, Frostwoods Beach, Fireman’s, Maywood and Schluter Parks.

City of Janesville

The City of Janesville has declared a winter weather emergency beginning at 2 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 29.

The city says a winter weather emergency means that all parked vehicles must be removed from city streets until snow and ice control operations are complete.

To ensure that you do not receive a parking ticket, please move all vehicles prior to 2 a.m. on Nov. 29, and keep them off city streets until 7 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 1.

City of Janesville crews will maintain main and arterial streets throughout the duration of the snowfall, while all other streets will be plowed after the snowfall is complete. All parked vehicles must be removed from City streets to maximize effectiveness and minimize safety issues for snow and ice removal operations.

Operations crews will be out and on route maintaining main and arterial roads. During the heaviest periods of snowfall, crews may not be able to keep up resulting in snow covered roads. please be cautious, remain alert, attentive, and only travel if necessary. Streets cleared of parked vehicles help our operators to more effectively and safely perform winter weather operations.

The city says the best place to park during a winter weather emergency is in your garage or driveway. If you are unable to park in a driveway or garage, parking is allowed in any municipal parking lot during a winter weather emergency. The following municipal parking lots are available downtown:

  • East Wall Street Lot at E Wall Street & N Parker Drive  
  • City Hall Lot at W Wall Street & N Jackson Street  
  • S High Street Lot at W Court Street & S High Street  
  • Hedberg Public Library Lot on Water Street  
  • River/Union Street Lot at S River Street & Union Street  
  • N Parker Drive Parking Ramp at N Parker Drive and E Wall Street  

Please ensure that vehicles are removed from parking lots after the emergency has ended to allow City crews to clear the lots of snow and ice.

Fines for parking on the street during a winter weather emergency are $50. The Janesville Police Department may begin issuing tickets to violators before snow and ice control operations begin.

City of Stoughton

The City of Stoughton’s snow emergency will begin at midnight Saturday, Nov. 29.

The city says parking will be even/odd from midnight to 8:00 a.m. for three consecutive Midnight to 8:00 a.m. periods unless canceled or extended.

This snow emergency will end at 8:00 am on Wednesday, Dec. 3.

City of Sun Prairie

A snow emergency will be in effect in the City of Sun Prairie beginning at 9 a.m. on Saturday and will expire at noon on Sunday.

City officials said no parking will be allowed on city streets until noon on Sunday or until the snow emergency is canceled.

Vehicles parked on the street can be ticketed and fined.

Officials said vehicles can be parked in municipal parking lots, parking lots and on Merchant Square during the snow emergency.
