Telangana DCA seizes counterfeit Levipil 500 tablets in raids across state


Hyderabad: The Drugs Control Administration, Telangana, seized spurious drug versions of ‘Levipil 500’ Tablets (Levetiracetam Tablets 500 mg), falsely claimed to be manufactured by Sun Pharma Laboratories Ltd.

The Levipil 500 tablet is an anti-epileptic medicine used to treat seizures (fits) in epilepsy.

Based on intelligence gathered by DCA officials, raids were conducted at several dealers in the State, leading to the detection of counterfeit versions of Levipil 500 tablets circulating in the market.

During the raids, a special team of officers of the DCA detected counterfeit stocks of Levipil 500 Tablets at the premises of Durga Medical and General Stores, located in Sudharsan Reddy Nagar, Chintal, Quthbullapur Village, Quthbullapur Mandal in Medchal-Malkajgiri District.

The raids conducted on January 12 found counterfeit versions of Levipil 500 tablets bearing batch No. GTF0885A, April 2024, with the manufacturing date and expiry date as March 2026.

They were being sold with the false claim that they had been manufactured by Sun Pharma Laboratories Ltd., in Kamrup, Assam. All the stocks were seized.

Further investigation will be conducted, and appropriate action will be taken against all offenders involved, said Shahnawaz Qasim, IPS, Director General of Drug Control Administration, in a statement.
