The Conjuring Last Rites beats Baaghi 4, The Bengal Files, Madharasi :

Hollywood horror film The Conjuring: Last Rites has emerged as the number one film at the Indian box office on day one, leaving behind all the major local releases. This isn’t a surprise but was very much expected as audiences have become very smart and choosey these days.

The Conjuring Last Rites Box Office:

The film had a strong start with midnight previews collecting around ₹43 lakhs, and followed it up with excellent Friday collections of ₹16.5 crore nett. With this, the total day one collections stand at approximately ₹16.9 crore, making it the clear leader.

Among Indian releases, Baaghi 4 put up decent numbers with an opening day collection of around ₹10-11 crore. While this is a respectable figure, it is still far behind The Conjuring and far behind Baaghi 3 and Baaghi 3 numbers. Madharasi too opened on average note at around ₹8 crore, but again could not match the Hollywood horror film’s performance. On the other hand, The Bengal Files had a much weaker start, with only about ₹1.5-1.75 crore nett coming in on day one.

The dominance of The Conjuring Last Rites once again highlights how Hollywood franchises have built a strong fan base in India. Horror fans turned up in large numbers, helping it cross the local films with ease. Looking at the strong trend, the film is expected to continue its momentum over the weekend and even maintain steady numbers through the weekdays. This is also the biggest opening for any Hollywood horror movie at the Indian box office.
