The news of Redford’s death was confirmed by his publicist, Cindi Berger of the publicity firm Rogers & Cowan PMK. A statement to The New York Times said that he died in his sleep. No cause of death has been publicly shared.
Redford’s career spanned more than six decades. He rose to fame in the 1960s and 1970s with standout roles in films like Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, The Sting, All the President’s Men, The Way We Were, and The Natural. He also excelled behind the camera. His directorial debut Ordinary People (1980) won the Academy Awards for Best Picture and Best Director. Other directing works include Quiz Show and A River Runs Through It.
Over the years, Redford accumulated many awards and honours. Among them, he won Oscars for Ordinary People, and was nominated for acting Oscars (for films such as The Sting). He also received Golden Globes, honorific awards such as Kennedy Center Honors, and the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
