New episodes of the Your Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man TV series are now out. As much as they were about Spider-Man picking out a new suit for himself, and trusting Norman Osborn and Harry with his identity, the episodes also brought into focus the arc followed by Lonnie Lincoln.
He got himself to join a gang for the sake of his brother. However, it seems that even though he joined the gang since he had no choice, he is beginning to embrace it with his new nickname ‘Tombstone”. So, let me tell you all about who Lonnie Lincoln is in your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man and what significance does “Tombstone” has in Marvel Comics!
Who Is Lonnie Lincoln in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man?
Since the first episodes of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, Lonnie Lincoln has been a friendly face to Peter. Even though he is dating Pearl, the girl Peter has a crush on, he has proven himself to be a good fellow, a genuine friend of Peter Parker, and the star quarterback of his school football team.
However, in the latest episodes, we see that Lincoln’s brother joined a street gang, and to get him out of there, Lonnie traded himself with his brother and became a member in his place.
Initially, Lincoln hated being in the gang and even decided to place all his attention into being a good player and focus on his career. This did not last long since he was called in for a gang fight where Lonnie ended up saving Big Donavan from getting stabbed and even got himself injured in the process.
This won him the trust of the gang who gave him the nickname “Tombstone” which Lonnie claimed to like. So, it’s safe to say that now Lonnie has started to like being a part of this gang. This is a cue to Lonnie’s comic-book arc!
Tombstone in the Spider-Man Comics Explained
Now that we have talked about Lonnie in the show, let’s take a look at his comic-book counterpart. Lincoln or Tombstone is a complete contrast to the version of him we have seen in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. In Marvel Comics, Lonnie was not a star quarterback but was born with a deformity that made his skin lack all pigmentation. He also had trouble speaking and could only speak in whispers.
Instead of being a friendly face, he was a bully and was given the nickname “Tombstone” in his senior year. After graduating, he became a mob runner in Philadelphia and began a life of crime for himself.
Later on, he gained superpowers after being exposed to a chemical named Diox-3. This exposure granted him superhuman strength, speed, agility, and stamina and since then, Tombstone has been a recurring Spider-Man villain.
Overall, by the looks of how things are going, there is a high chance that Lonnie Lincon’s Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man version might go down the same path and eventually, might come in contact with the chemical that granted his comic counterpart his powers. However, it may not go down like it did in the comics so let’s wait and see what happens, and stay tuned with us for more updates!
