What Is the Meaning of the Blood Cross on the Coffin in Squid Game?

We’ve seen the crew of Squid Game put blood crosses or plus signs on certain coffins, even back in Season 1, but the reason behind it was never explained. In Season 2, we finally understand why those marks are made. The blood cross (or plus sign) on a coffin means the person inside is still alive, and their organs are about to be harvested and sold. If you remember, even in Season 1, it was hinted that the crew was involved in illegal organ harvesting, and the Frontman knew about it but simply didn’t care.

We see that the masked crew members don’t always shoot to kill the players; instead, they keep some of them barely alive so they can extract vital organs and sell them for extra profit on the side. However, in Squid Game Season 2, one of the crew members, Kang No-eul, actually shows a shred of humanity and ends a half-dead player’s misery.

Fast forward to Squid Game Season 3, and we see her go even further; she helps Player 246 by giving him a non-fatal wound instead of killing him. Not only that, she pretends to be interested in joining the organ trafficking ring, but ends up taking down everyone involved in the operation, except for the doctor, and even gives Player 246 a blood transfusion to save his life.
