Task Manager changes how it calculates processor utilization to match industry standards and third-party tools. Also, this update brings the “Share with” option to the File Explorer context menu.

These are the changes rolling out in the latest preview of Windows 11 in the Dev and Beta Channels.

Lock Screen customizable widgets

Starting with the update KB5052090, Windows 11 is making changes to the “Lock Screen” settings page that removes the “Lock screen status” setting and places it with a new “Your widgets” setting.

You can turn the “Your widgets” setting on or off to show or hide the widgets in the Lock Screen. When you open the settings, you can add, re-arrange, and remove widgets.

It’s important to note that the Lock Screen can now show a variety of widgets, not just weather, watchlist, traffic, and sports.

Furthermore, Microsoft is also introducing a new “Disable Widgets On Lock Screen” policy in the Group Policy Editor to allow administrators to control this feature from Computer Configurations > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Widgets.

The feature is rolling out to Insiders gradually located in the European Economic Area (EEA), but you can enable the new setting manually using the ViVeTool and running the vivetool /enable /id:50179255,53672489 command. In the future, the company will bring the feature to all regions.

Task Manager’s new CPU logic

Task Manager is getting an update to make CPU usage information consistent. You’ll now see the same CPU workload across all pages, matching industry standards.

If you need the previous CPU value, you can show the “CPU Utility” column, which is located in the “Details” tab.

Share with option for context menu

Also, when right-clicking a file, the context menu will now include a new “Share with” submenu that allows you to share content directly with supported applications.
