Windows 11 build 27783 outs with visual changes in Canary Channel

Microsoft is now rolling out Windows 11 build 27783 in the Canary Channel of the Windows Insider Program with visual improvements for File Explorer, Magnifier, and Settings app.

What’s new on Windows 11 build 27783

According to the official notes, these are the most significant changes rolling out for devices enrolled in the Canary Channel.

File Explorer with Shared tab

Build 27783 for Windows 11 updates File Explorer with a redesigned “Home” page that now includes a “Shared” tab to list files that have been shared with you through emails, Teams chats, and more.

This feature is available for regular consumers using a Microsoft account and commercial customers signing in with a Microsoft Entra ID account.

Magnifier new zoom options

This preview also adds the reset zoom to fit the screen and reset the zoom to the last modification buttons to the Magnifier interface.

In addition, Microsoft is adding the “CTRL + ALT + Minus” keyboard shortcut to toggle between the current zoom and 1X zoom more quickly.

Settings app with Administrator Protection

As part of the change for build 27783, you now have to authenticate with the Administrator Protection prompt to access the “For developers” section and to enable some specific settings, such as “Developer Mode.”

If you turn on the Administrator Protection feature on Windows 11, you will actually have to authenticate to change the most advanced settings. Another example can be found when managing the option to replace your password authentication with Windows Hello on the “Sign-in” options page.

It’s important to note that you will have to authenticate once per session to access a group of settings, such as the “For developers” section, and every time you want to change specific settings like enabling the “Developer Mode.”

Fixes in this preview

This update fixes several bugs in the operating system, including:

  • Taskbar: Preview windows now consistently appear when hovering over Taskbar icons.
  • Input: The Pinyin IME will no longer unexpectedly switch to English when using the “ALT + Tab” keyboard shortcut.
  • Windowing: The app freezes when using “ALT + Tab” between certain apps are resolved.
  • Graphics: The Settings app will no longer crash when navigating to Display > Graphics.
  • Remote Desktop: Issues causing “MTSC.exe” to fail and display problems have been fixed.

In addition, this build fixes a memory leak in “explorer.exe,” improving performance, and the shutdown /r /fw command now works reliably.

Installation process

To download and install this Windows 11 build, enroll your device in the Canary Channel through the “Windows Insider Program” settings from the “Update & Security” section.
