Windows 11 gets builds 26120.2702, 22635.4655, and 27764 with new features

• Microsoft rolls out Windows 11 build 26120.2702 (KB5048761), build 22635.4655 (KB5048753), and build 27764.
• These updates are available in the Dev, Beta, and Canary Channels of the Windows Insider Program.
• Some of the changes include new advanced settings for cameras, Windows Spotlight improvements, and a Start menu with Jump List support.
• Other hidden improvements include a new Emoji button in the Taskbar, Administrator protection settings, and more.

Microsoft is now rolling out Windows 11 build 26120.2702 (KB5048761) in the Dev Channel, build 22635.4655 (KB5048753) in the Beta Channel, and build 27764 in the Canary Channel, and while these are minor updates, they introduce several visual changes, improvements, and fixes.

According to the company announcement, Windows 11 build 26120.2702 in the Dev Channel rolls out new advanced settings for cameras, improvements for the passwordless experience, and makes filtering better for the web recommendations in the Start menu.

In the Beta Channel, Windows 11 build 22635.4655 also brings changes to the web recommendations in the Start menu, tweaks the Stoplight features in the Lock screen and desktop, and rolls out changes for the Share experience.

Finally, in the Canary Channel, Windows 11 build 27764 adds Jump List support for pinned apps in the Start menu and rolls out tweaks for the Dynamic Lighting settings page, input, Windows Narrator, Speech, and more.

Windows 11 build 26120.2702 (Dev)

As part of the improvements rolling out with the KB5048761 update, Microsoft is making available new advanced configuration settings for webcams in the “Camera” settings page, which will include two features, including “Multi-app Camera” and “Camera Basic Mode.”

The “Multi-app Camera” feature lets you stream the same camera across multiple apps. On the other hand, the “Camera Basic Mode” feature enables the camera to be used in debugging mode to troubleshoot problems.

The company also notes that it is also working on another option that will allow you to choose a specific camera resolution in the Camera settings. Actually, this option can already be turned on manually with the vivetool /enable /id:52142480 command using the ViveTool.

The update also introduces API support for third-party passkey providers and WebAuthn APIs to support a plugin authentication for passkeys. These new implementations will allow users to use third-party providers to manage passkeys alongside the one available in the operating system.

Furthermore, the development team is improving the filtering recommendations in the Start menu to provide better website suggestions based on browsing history.

If the feature isn’t available on your installation, you can turn it on by running the vivetool /enable /id:50460862 command with the ViveTool.

As part of this preview, the company is also rolling out mouse, keyboard, graphics, Windows Recall, and Click to Do fixes.

Windows 11 build 22635.4655 (Beta)

In the Beta Channel, similar to the Dev Channel, build 22635.4655 also improves filtering recommendations in the Start menu to offer better website suggestions based on browsing history.

As part of the Spotlight feature, this preview tweaks the Lock screen with a new “Like the image that you see” element at the top right. Clicking the “Like icon” button provides more details about the image.

On the desktop, hovering over the Spotlight icon or clicking the “Learn about this picture” icon will give you more details about the background.

The changes for the Spotlight features are rolling out for everyone, but if you are not seeing them, you can run the vivetool /enable /id:48656084 command to enable the desktop changes and then vivetool /enable /id:53844009 /variant:X to enable the Lock screen changes.

In the last command, change “X” to 1 to get the “Like the image that you see?” text, 3 to get the “What is in this image?” text, or 4 for the same text as option “1” but with the Photos app icon.

Also, the KB5048753 update improves the Share interface with a new thumbnail preview sharing a link. If this change isn’t available, you can run the vivetool /enable /id:53871483,48433719 command.

Microsoft is also working on a new entry point (via @PhantomOfEarth) to access the Emoji panel from the System Tray in the Taskbar. The option appears on the “Taskbar” settings page, and when enabled, you will notice a new icon in the System Tray.

This feature is still a work in progress, but you can turn it on by running the vivetool /enable /id:48504539 command using the ViveTool

Finally, this update only rolls out one fix for the Taskbar that resolves a window preview issue.

Windows 11 build 27764 (Canary)

Microsoft also recently made available the Windows 11 build 27764 in the Canary Channel, with several changes we have already seen in other channels. For example, the Start menu in this release now includes support for the Jump List for items pinned in the “Pinned” section.

On the “Dynamic Lighting” page, the system will now show a placeholder message when you don’t have any compatible lighting device connected to your computer. In addition, the brightness and effects settings will also be disabled. 

Starting with this release, the IME toolbar will be hidden when apps are in full-screen mode for users who type in Chinese or Japanese and have the IME toolbar enabled.

For accessibility, the Windows Narrator scan mode has two new features. Skip past links (N’): This allows you to skip over links and directly access the text that follows, and jump to lists (L’): This lets you quickly navigate to lists on web pages or documents.

Finally, Microsoft has improved speech-to-text and text-to-speech features, and moving forward, the language files will be downloaded from the Microsoft Store.

In the Windows Security app, the company didn’t mention it, but in the “Account protection” section, a new “Administrator protection” setting appears, but it still doesn’t work properly.

Installation process

To download and install these Windows 11 builds, enroll your device in the Beta, Dev, or Canary Channel through the “Windows Insider Program” settings from the “Update & Security” section. Once you enroll the computer in the program, you can download the build from the “Windows Update” settings by turning on the “Get the latest updates as soon as they’re available” option and clicking the “Check for Updates” button.
