If you aren’t married to Apple products or you’re looking for an iPad alternative, now might be a good time to get the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9+. This 12.4” 256GB tablet (in both beige and graphite) is currently priced at $699.99, down from its original $999.99. And, with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor and 120Hz refresh rate, this gadget is reportedly a smooth performer, whether you’re streaming your favorite shows or sketching your next masterpiece with the included S Pen (yes, no extra charge for that, unlike iPads). Its IP68 rating means it’s dust-proof and waterproof (up to 30 minutes at five feet, according to Samsung), and its aluminum frame is designed to survive a few bumps (though maybe don’t test this theory too eagerly).

The Tab S9+ offers the usual Galaxy AI features, including the circle-to-search feature for convenient screen searches, as well as note-taking, transcription, and summarization. Its DeX mode allows the tablet to function like a mini desktop with a PC-like interface; you can also hook it up to an external display for extra workspace. That said, if you need 5G connectivity, it’s a $150 upgrade, and it’s only available for the 256GB model.

Despite its 10,090mAh battery, the Tab S9+ might not last as long as you’d hope, depending on your usage, and the fast charging isn’t quite as speedy as advertised, according to one review. If you plan on using it for long stretches away from an outlet, this could be something to consider. After a full comparison, PCMag notes the Apple iPad Pro 13” could be a good alternative—if you’re willing to drop $1,189.99 (down from $1299) for it.
