The Q6 E-Tron is Audi’s first vehicle to use the Premium Platform Electric (PPE) EV architecture that will be the basis for future Audi and Porsche EVs. It shares elements of its underlying design with the new Porsche Macan Electric SUV and the forthcoming A6 E-Tron sedan.
The Q6 comes in all-wheel drive, rear-wheel drive, and high-performance SQ6 versions, as well as a more aerodynamic Sportback. Each one is fitted with a 100-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery, and based on the Environmental Protection Agency’s estimates, they have between 275 and 321 miles of range.
Like the Macan Electric, the Q6 uses an 800-volt architecture enabling rapid battery replenishment at public DC fast chargers, with a maximum 270 kW fast-charging capability. The automaker claims that under optimal conditions, the battery can go from 10 percent to 80 percent charged in about 21 minutes, which would put it among the faster-charging EVs available.
While the interior design is as restrained as the exterior, it features not one but two giant screens: an 11.9-inch display in front of the driver and a 14.5-inch center-mounted infotainment touchscreen, with the right side curved toward the driver. They’re butted up to appear as if they’re one single unit. Our Q6 doesn’t have the optional 10.9-inch screen that allows the front-seat passenger to stream video content, among other functions.
This is our initial assessment of the Audi Q6 E-Tron, not a final review. We bought a Q6 E-Tron Quattro Premium Plus, which is the trim level most consumers will purchase. Now that we have completed 2,000 break-in miles, the EV is in our official test program, which consists of more than 50 tests at the CR Auto Test Center, including empirical tests of acceleration, braking, handling, driving range, and usability.
