Hyderabad: Dr D Nageshwar Reddy, Chairman of AIG Hospitals, has been elected to the College of Fellows of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE). The appointment is considered one of the highest professional honours in the fields of medical and biological engineering.
Membership in the AIMBE College of Fellows is restricted to the top 2 per cent of medical and biological engineers globally. Dr Reddy joins a group that includes Nobel Laureates and members of the US National Academies of Sciences and Engineering.
The role of AIMBE Fellows
The College of Fellows is a policy-shaping body that collaborates with government agencies and research institutions.
The group focuses on:
– Advancing biomedical research and innovation.
– Promoting equitable access to healthcare technologies.
– Encouraging investment in science and engineering.
– Integrating engineering into patient care.
Redefining gastroenterology
Dr Reddy is recognised for his work in transitioning gastrointestinal endoscopy from a diagnostic tool to a therapeutic one.
His contributions bridge clinical practice with biological engineering, most notably through the invention of the ‘NAGI Stent’. This device is used globally for the drainage of pancreatic pseudocysts and has become a standard in minimally invasive therapeutic endoscopy.
“We are at the cusp of a transformative era,” Dr Reddy stated. “Realising this potential requires an integrated ecosystem bringing together clinicians, engineers, academia and policymakers. Sustained investment in research and clinical validation is essential to make high-quality healthcare accessible to millions.”
Innovation at AIG Hospitals
Under Dr Reddy’s leadership, AIG Hospitals has focused on translational research and the integration of Artificial Intelligence into clinical settings, the hospital said. This election reinforces the institution’s role as a centre for medical innovation and research in India.
Through this fellowship, Dr Reddy will contribute to global briefings and scientific exhibitions aimed at influencing the future of medical technology and healthcare delivery.
