Hyderabad: The growing demand for minimally invasive urological surgeries took center stage at Robo-Lap 2025, a two-day conference hosted by the Asian Institute of Nephrology and Urology (AINU).
With over 1,000 urologists from India, the US, UK, Belgium, Bangladesh, Nepal, and Sri Lanka in attendance, the event provided a platform to deliberate on the role of robotics and laparoscopy in reshaping patient care.
Patients Driving Change
Medical experts noted that patients, regardless of whether they live in urban or rural areas, are increasingly asking for smaller surgical incisions. This shift is driven by awareness that less invasive procedures reduce pain and enable faster recovery.
“Today, whether urban or rural patients are asking for smaller incisions, because they know it reduces pain, ensures faster recovery, and helps them return quickly to normal life,” said Dr. Mallikarjuna C, Managing Director & Chief Consultant Urologist at AINU.
He added that such procedures are not part of standard medical college education, making the conference particularly useful for practitioners who could enhance their skills and take the knowledge back to their regions.
Focus on Clinical Knowledge Exchange
AINU positioned the event as an academic exchange of expertise rather than a showcase of technology alone.
“At AINU, we have always believed that advancing patient care begins with advancing clinical knowledge. Robo-Lap 2025 was not just about showcasing surgical innovations; it was about creating a forum where specialists from across the globe could engage, share insights, and collectively reimagine the future of Urology care,” said Dr. Mallikarjuna.
He stressed that creating large-scale platforms for dialogue ensures that the urology community remains updated with the latest breakthroughs in robotics and minimally invasive surgery.
CEO’s Perspective on Innovation
From the institutional side, Sandeep Guduru, Chief Executive Officer of AINU, described the initiative as a reflection of the hospital’s long-term vision.
“The ‘Robo-Lap’ initiative reflects AINU’s commitment to clinical excellence, continuous learning, and technological innovation in the fields of urology. At AINU, we believe in pushing the boundaries of innovation, and Robo-Lap is a shining example of that spirit,” Guduru said.
Discussions and Case Studies
The conference covered a range of sub-specialties, including advanced uro-oncology surgeries, reconstructive procedures, and complex pediatric surgeries. Sessions involved live case discussions, workshops, and expert deliberations, with a focus on demonstrating how robotic and laparoscopic methods can improve surgical precision, reduce invasiveness, and accelerate recovery.
AINU’s Role in Urology Care
AINU, part of Asia Healthcare Holdings, operates seven hospitals across four cities. It reports having treated over 500,000 patients and performed more than 1,200 robotic surgeries. The institution is accredited by NABH and runs postgraduate training programs such as DNB and FNB.
Through Robo-Lap 2025, AINU positioned itself as a convener of global expertise in urology and nephrology, aiming to expand the use of robotics in clinical practice and trauma
