How to show time with seconds in Notification Center on Windows 11

  • To enable the Notification Center clock with seconds on Windows 11, open Settings > Time & language > Date & time, and turn on “Show time in Notification Center.”
  • If the option isn’t available, you can manually enable it on supported Insider builds using ViveTool with the command: vivetool /enable /id:42651849,48433719.
  • This feature was available in Windows 10 and is now being reintroduced in the latest Windows 11 Dev and Beta builds as part of Taskbar improvements.

Microsoft is reintroducing a familiar feature from Windows 10, the ability to display the clock with seconds in the Notification Center, as part of the latest Windows 11 Insider Preview builds in the Dev (build 26200.5651) and Beta (build 26120.4441) Channels. In this guide, I’ll walk you through the steps to enable this functionality on your device.

Starting with these recent updates, a new option in the Settings app allows you to show the time directly in the Notification Center interface above the calendar. If this sounds familiar, it’s because the feature was part of Windows 10 but was removed in the early versions of Windows 11. Now, Microsoft is gradually rolling it out again as part of its ongoing improvements to the Taskbar experience.

Although the feature is still under development and may not appear on all devices right away, you can manually enable it using the ViveTool, a command-line utility that unlocks hidden features in Windows Insider builds.

In this guide, I’ll outline the steps to enable and show the time in the Notification Center on Windows 11.

To enable the “Show time in Notification Center” toggle in the Settings app, follow these steps:

  1. Open the GitHub website.

  2. Download the ViveTool-vx.x.x.zip file to enable the Notification Center’s clock.

  3. Double-click the zip folder to open it with File Explorer.

  4. Click the Extract all button.

  5. Click the Extract button.

  6. Copy the path to the folder.

  7. Open Start.

  8. Search for Command Prompt, right-click the top result, and select the Run as administrator option.

  9. Type the following command to navigate to the ViveTool folder and press Enter:

    cd c:\folder\path\ViveTool-v0.x.x

In the command, remember to change the path to the folder with your path.

  10. Type the following command to enable the clock with seconds and press Enter:

    vivetool /enable /id:42651849,48433719
  11. Restart the computer.

Once you complete the steps, the option to display the clock with seconds will appear in the “Date & time” settings page.

To display the time with seconds in the Notification Center, follow these steps:

  1. Open Settings.

  2. Click on Time & language.

  3. Click the Date & time page.

  4. Turn on the “Show time in Notification Center” toggle switch.

After you complete the steps, the next time you open the Notification Center, you will see time alongside seconds above the calendar interface.

If you want to undo the changes, you can follow the same instructions outlined above, but in step 10, run the vivetool /disable /id:42651849,48433719 command.

It’s important to note that Windows 11 also includes an option to show seconds in the clock that appears in the System Tray from the Taskbar.
