LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — Sunrise Health System hospitals are celebrating the remarkable journeys of their former Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) patients with special family reunions.
The events, held at Sunrise Children’s Hospital, MountainView Hospital, and Southern Hills Hospital, honor the tiniest patients and the dedicated medical teams who supported them during their earliest and most vulnerable days.
Todd Sklamberg is the CEO at Sunrise Hospital and Sunrise Children’s Hospital.
He says, “Today we’re celebrating the resiliency of our NICU families with our NICU Family Reunion. He says this event is about the “smallest and tiniest babies,” their strengths, and they make amazing recoveries with the determination of their families.
These reunions aim to bring together families and the healthcare professionals who provided extraordinary care in the hospitals’ Level III NICUs.
Crystal Mendoza and George Kestner brought their young daughter Isabella back to reconnect with hospital staff.
Mendoza says Isabella was in the NICU for a little over one month.
Kestner said it was very important to return for the reunion to show the staff the progress of their daughter.
Angela Weiner is a Neonatologist at Sunrise Children’s Hospital. Weiner says, “We do this every year and bring our families back to the hospital to reunite.”
“It’s special to us and to the staff to come back and get to see the babies,” she says.
The celebrations will continue at all three hospitals within the Sunrise Health System over the next month.
