Hyderabad: A timely intervention by doctors at Care Hospitals, Malakpet, saved the life of a 49-year-old man after he suffered severe cardiogenic shock.
The patient’s left main coronary artery was blocked when he was rushed to the hospital.
Cardiac arrest
The patient was diagnosed with a 70 to 80 percent blockage of the left main coronary artery and a significant blood clot in the left artery.
On his arrival at the hospital, it was found that his blood pressure was dangerously low.
High-Risk Intervention
Recognizing the urgency, the emergency cardiac team was mobilized Dr. Naveen Kumar Cheruku, senior interventional cardiologist, who performed a complex, emergency image-guided angioplasty (PCI).
“When the patient arrived, he was in cardiogenic shock with a critical blockage in the left main artery,” said Dr. Cheruku. “These situations are extremely high-risk because every minute of delay can cause irreversible heart damage or even death. Performing an angioplasty in such unstable conditions is highly challenging.”
During the procedure, a stent was placed successfully, clearing the blockage and restoring crucial blood flow.
The patient responded well to the immediate intervention. Blood flow was successfully restored, his condition stabilized, and he was soon removed from ventilator support. He was discharged in stable condition after five days and is now recovering well under follow-up care.
