In our reviewer’s words, “the Coop Percale sheet set reminded me of a slim-fit cotton shirt— structured and neatly tailored.”

This set is your classic cotton sheets, levelled-up. The Coop Cotton Percale set, starting from $169, is available in four calming colors and six different sizes and comes with a flat sheet, fitted sheet and two pillowcases (one for twin XL). The fitted sheets can be used with mattresses up to 18″ deep, depending on the size you opt for.

Crafted from pure 100% cotton percale, it initially has a very structured feel. However, just as the brand suggests, we found it got softer with every wash.

We also found the set easy to maintain as its both machine washable and dryer friendly. And while cotton is a material which wrinkles easily, these cotton percale sheets from Coop can be ironed on a low heat setting to get a smooth sleep surface.

Considering the breathability, we think this is the perfect sheet set to use throughout the year if you’re someone who doesn’t like switching your bedding every season.

While it’s not cool-to-touch like the Cozy Earth Bamboo set at #3 or the Sijo at #4, our tester recommends it even during summer as the natural cotton is known for its moisture-wicking properties and ability to promote airflow.

Durability meant for long-term use: The Coop Percale sheets are designed to get softer with every wash, while a quality design, using top-notch materials means these should last years.

Excellent breathability: The percale weave of these cotton sheets provides good airflow, helping to avoid feel stuffy or hot in bed, no matter the weather.

Good sleep benefits: With a 100-night sleep trial, one year warranty and free shipping, the brand offers a good package of benefits — one step below Cozy Earth at #3 (which comes with a five year warranty).

What we don’t like about it…

Expensive: It’s undeniable that at $169 for a twin, the Coop Percale Cotton sheets are a pricey investment.

May be too stiff for some: These pure cotton sheets may feel a little to stiff for some to begin with (although they do get softer after a few wash cycles). The structure of cotton can also make these sheets prone to wrinkling.

Coop Cotton Percale Sheet Set: Our Verdict

Looking for a durable sheet set for year-round use? The Coop Cotton Percale sheet set is our top pick exactly because it’s able to provide that.

It’s crafted to last using pure 100% percale cotton, is breathable and suitable for all sleeping types and is easy to maintain. If wrinkled sheets are a real bugbear for you, these can be ironed (on low-heat) as and when required.

The stiffness that you can get with traditional cotton wanes in these sheets over time revealing soft, the more you use them. Tend to run cold? All you have to do is layer your Coop cotton percale sheets with blankets and a duvet with the right tog rating. This will help you sleep snug without worrying about overheating.

Our only gripe is the price — but considering the sleep benefits and durability, this is a cotton sheet set worth the money.

With an overall rating of 4.6 out of 5 stars based on 225,000+ reviews on Amazon, the Utopia Bedding sheet set is hugely popular.

The highlight is, of course, the price, typically starting from just under $15 for a twin set. However, prices can vary, sometimes dropping below that, depending on the color and size you opt for.

The Utopia Bedding sheet set includes a flat sheet, a fitted sheet and two pillowcases (one for twin and twin XL), all crafted from soft brushed polyester microfiber that’s easy to care for. Our reviewer, who opted to test a pretty sage green set, was instantly impressed with the feel, color options (there are over 25 different shades to choose from) and breathability, even after two wash and dry cycles.

While we didn’t notice any pilling or shrinkages during the one-week testing period, the sheets were not wrinkle-resistant like the brand advertised. We also found slight color-fading after two washes which might be more prominent if you go for a brighter shade.

The brushed polyester microfiber material also isn’t known for its cooling properties, and may be unsuitable for those prone to overheating or nightsweats. If you’re a hot sleeper, we recommend considering the cooling Airyweight Eucalyptus Sheet Set from Sijo at #4 or the Cozy Earth Bamboo Sheet Set at #3.

What we like about it

Affordability: The Utopia Bedding sheet set can start from under $15 , making it the perfect choice if you have a tight budget.

Easy to maintain: Machine-washable and dryer friendly, it’s a great option for anyone looking for low-maintenance bedding.

Available in over 25 different colors: Including the sage green set our reviewer tested, the Utopia Bedding sheet sets come in an array of different shades to match your bedroom decor.

What we don’t like about it…

No warranty or trial period: While it’s a great price point, the lack of of a sleep trial or warranty is a slight disadvantage.

Might not be ideal for hot sleepers: Our tester did not wake up due to overheating or nightsweats and slept comfortably during the testing period. However, brushed polyester microfiber is a synthetic fabric and so less breathable than natural materials, so may not be ideal fo hot sleepers.

Not immune to wrinkles or fading: Contrary to what the brand advertises, we spotted wrinkles and slight fading after two wash and dry cycles.

Utopia Bedding Sheet Set: Our verdict

Looking for a low-maintenance, comfy sheet set to deck out your guest room or dorm-bed? The brushed polyester microfiber Utopia Bedding sheet set is an ideal choice.

In our reviewer’s words, the sheet set is both “soft-to-touch and comfortable,” so it should suit most sleepers.

However, the fabric is not known for its cooling credentials, so those who regularly sleep hot might need to go for naturally breathable cotton or bamboo sheets.

With a twin set starting from $14.99 (MSRP changes frequently)— the Utopia Bedding microfiber sheets are definitely one of the cheapest options we’ve ever come across. However, the lack of a sleep trial or warranty is a slight disadvantage compared to the other bedding brands in this guide.

3. The best luxury sheet set

Luxury comfort thanks to the silky smoothness of bamboo-viscose

Specifications

Type: Bamboo-viscose

Price: from $258

Size: from twin to split king

Benefits: 100-night sleep trial, 10-year warranty and free shipping

Reasons to buy

Generous sleep benefits

If your want a bed fit for royalty, luxurious, silky sheets are the way to go. However, bedding made from natural silk can be extremely expensive. Which is why our top pick for luxury bedding is the Cozy Earth Bamboo sheet set, a silky smooth, cooling and easy to care for option that is equally sumptuous, but slightly more affordable.

Starting from $258, these sheet sets crafted from bamboo viscose aren’t exactly a budget purchase, but they certainly don’t cost as much as organic silk bedding.

Each set includes a flat sheet, a fitted sheet and two pillowcases (one for some twin options) and to elevate the luxury feel, the brand offers some of the best benefits we’ve ever spotted for bedding; a 100-night trial, 10-year warranty and free shipping.

Not to mention the choice of elegant colors including walnut brown, laurel green and three new designs (jade tree snow, winter toile dijon and winter toile pacific) launched just in time for holidays.

Based on its overall perks and performance, our reviewer gave it a rating of 4.7 out of 5 stars. Although, if you’re not a fan of the sometimes slippery feel of silky sheets or an oversized drape-design, it’s best to go for a classic percale cotton — the Coop sheet set at #1.

Need something warmer and more smooth? Your best bet is the Brooklinen Luxe Sateen Sheet Set at #5.

What we like about it…

An affordable dupe for silk sheets: Our reviewer found that the Cozy Earth Bamboo sheets felt “luxuriously silky.”

Excellent temperature regulation: These sheets felt consistently cool even after two wash and dry cycles, so we’d recommend them for hot sleepers.

Incredible sleep benefits: Cozy Earth provides one of the best sleep-benefit packages for bed sheets with a 100-night trial, 10-year warranty and free shipping.

What we don’t like about it…

Can be overly slippery for some: If you’d rather prefer the structured feel of cotton over silkiness, the Cozy Earth Bamboo sheets might be the wrong fit for you.

Cozy Earth Bamboo Sheet Set: Our verdict

Looking for the luxurious smoothness of natural silk bedding at a fraction of its price? The Cozy Earth Bamboo sheet set delivers.

While it’s more expensive (a twin set at $258 MSRP) than the other options in this guide, the Cozy Earth Bamboo set combines superior comfort, durability, easy maintenance and excellent sleep benefits.

This sheet set also provides luxury cooling for hot sleepers — which is good news for those who consitistently struggle with overheating and nightsweats.

If you regularly overheat in bed or experience night sweats, you may find your regular cotton sheets don’t have the cooling capabilities you need. Instead, we recommend sheets that are specifically designed to keep you feeling fresh, which is why the Sijo Airyweight Eucalyptus sheet set is our top pick for cooling.

Crafted using Tencel Lyocell fibers derived from eucalyptus wood (a fabric known both for its cooling and moisture-wicking properties) the Airyweight Eucalyptus sheet set feels silky-soft, while reducing the chances of hot and sweaty nights.

In fact, the Sijo Airyweight Eucalyptus sheet set earned a full score of 5 out of 5 stars for temperature regulation in our review, even while being tested during the hot summer months in New York.

The Sijo Airyweight Eucalyptus sheet set is also anti-microbial and hypoallergic, as well as OEKO-TEX Standard 100 and National Allergy and Asthma Foundation certified, making them a good choice for those who have allergies to deal with.

This set is available to buy in six sizes and 13 different colors and patterns. Price start from $145 for a full twin set including a fitted sheet, a flat sheet and a pillowcase. Without the flat sheet, a twin set will cost you $95. Larger sizes include two pillowcases. Sleep benefits include a 1-year limited warranty, 60-day return period and free shipping.

What we like about it…

Perfect for hot sleepers: Our reviewer, who tested it during the warmer months, was impressed by the consistently cooling fabric, which can wick away moisture, leaving you fresh and comfortable.

It’s anti-microbial and hypoallergenic: This OEKO-TEX certified and asthma and allergy friendly sheet set is a good choice for those who want a healthy, allergen-free sleep.

Easy to care and maintain: It is machine-washable and tumble dryer friendly, plus you can also iron it on low heat.

What we don’t like about it…

May be too slippery for some: Just like the Cozy Earth Bamboo sheet set, if you’re not a fan of a silky feel, chances are the Sijo Airyweight Eucalyptus sheets aren’t for you.

Sijo Airyweight Eucalyptus: Our verdict

Our reviewer tested the Sijo Airyweight Eucalyptus Sheet set during a hot summer in New York, and it still earned a 5 out of 5 for temperature regulation.

The Tencel Lyocell fabric used for these sheets proved to be silky-smooth, cool-to-touch and moisture-wicking. Added advantages are that the sheets are also anti-microbial and naturally hypoallergenic.

Overall, we awarded it a 4.8 out of 5 for its look, feel, fit and more. However, if you’re not a fan of the silky texture, we recommend the Coop Cotton Percale set at #1 for its structured yet soft feel and breathability.

5. The best sateen

A luxuriously comfortable, lustrous sheet set for hotel-style sleep

Specifications

Type: Sateen weave cotton

Price: From $169

Our review score: ★★★★½ (4.6/5 stars)

Size: From twin to Cal king

Benefits: 365-day returns, free shipping

Reasons to buy

+

Beautiful look, variety of colors and patterns

+

More traditional cotton feel

+

480 thread count

+

365-night returns

Reasons to avoid

Not silky or buttery soft

The Luxe Sateen Core Sheet Set has been a Brooklinen bestseller for a while now, and after testing it out ourselves, we now know why.

Crafted from 480 thread count long-staple cotton, this sheet set stands out from the rest with a denser and smoother sateen weave, which might feel slightly different from our set at the top of the guide: the Coop Percale Cotton at #1.

With its subtle lustre and medium-softness which gets better with every wash, this sheet set reminded our tester of a hotel bed— “more firm than silky soft – but still with that luxe vibe.”

It comes in over 20 different colors and patterns including holiday-special editions which often sell out early on.

However, this is still a premium priced set at $159 MSRP for a twin size, which includes— a fitted sheet, a flat sheet and one pillowcases (larger sizes have two pillowcases). Even with discounts of 25%, which we’ve seen, it will still cost you $119.25.

While you’d expect a sheet set of this price to come with generous benefits, Brooklinen is a let down here in comparison to brands like Coop Sleep Goods and Cozy Earth. Each Luxe Sateen Core sheet set comes with a 365-return period (at a cost of $9.95 to be deducted from the final refund amount) and free shipping.

Aside from the lack of benefits, the high-quality materials and durability makes this set one of the best currently in the market.

What we like about it…

Hotel-like luxury feel: The 480-thread count long-staple cotton results in a luxuriously comfortable feel reminiscent of a top-tier hotel room.

Comes in an array of options to match your decor: The Brooklinen Luxe Sateen Core sheet sets come in over 20 different patterns and colors, some of which are limited-edition holiday prints.

Available on regular sales: You can often find this set with 15-25% off, which means a queen set starts at $149.25 (was $199).

What we don’t like about it…

Might not suit hot sleepers: This sateen weave cotton is denser, making it warmer than a weave like percale. Very hot sleepers may need to steer clear.

No warranty included: Considering the premium price, a warranty is to be expected. However, these sheets only come with a 365-return period, which will cost you $9.95.

Brooklinen Luxe Sateen Core Sheet Set: Our verdict

The Brooklinen Luxe Sateen Core Sheet Set is ideal if you’re looking for luxurious cotton sheets that are more suitable for colder months.

The highlight is the lustrous yet comfortable sateen weave, and that these sheets are designed to get softer with every wash.

You can find the Brooklinen Luxe Sateen Core Sheet Set in a wide range of colors and patterns, which makes decking out your home for the different seasons much easier. Plus it’s easy to maintain — just pop them in the washing machine on a cold cycle and tumble-dry on low heat. However, since the set starts at $199 MSRP for a queen size, we wouldn’t categorize this as an affordable purchase.

While our reviewer slept comfortably in both warm and cool temperatures, hot sleepers might want to go for a percale weave (like Coop Cotton set at #1) or our more dedicated cooling options like the Sijo Airyweight Eucalyptus at #4.

How we test

Products reviews are at the heart of our content at Digitpatrox and to ensure we give you our top recommendations, we test rigorously. Our bed sheet guide is no exception.

Our in-house reviewers spend two weeks sleeping on each set and putting them through two wash and dry cycles. This lets us gauge the overall performance of a set— how it feels, fits, regulates temperature, its durability and ease of maintenance. We score each parameter out of 5 — 1 indicating poor and 5 meaning it’s outstanding.

Our main objective is to help you make an informed decision and find the right set of sheets for your sleep, right from the fabric thread count, the material, softness and visual appeal.

Best Best Sheets FAQs

What is bed sheet thread count and what does it imply?

Thread count is the number of horizontal and vertical threads woven into one square inch of fabric.

It denotes the feel and softness of materials like cotton, bamboo or tencel. However, a higher thread count does not necessarily mean better quality.

“While it’s often marketed as a sign of quality, thread count alone doesn’t determine how soft, breathable, or durable sheets are,” says Byron Golub, Vice President of Product and Merchandising at Saatva.

“Other factors like the type of fabric, weave, and fiber quality matter just as much,” he adds.

What material sheets are best for sleeping?

Classic cotton is the one material recommended by experts for year-round use thanks to its breathability, softness and durability.

If you’re a hot sleeper, switching to cooling fabrics like linen, bamboo or Tencel Lyocell can help with overheating or nightsweats.

“Linen is naturally cooling, moisture-wicking, and airy while bamboo (viscose or lyocell) is silky soft, temperature-regulating, and great for hot sleepers. Best in the 250–350 thread count range,” says Golub.

“Tencel is another eco-friendly, breathable option that’s smooth and cool to the touch— ideal in the 300–400 range,” he adds.

How often should you wash your sheets?

The cardinal rule is to always wash your bed sheets before the first use. This can help get rid of any chemical residue used during the manufacturing stage, plus dust, bugs and even mold spores.

However, regular maintenance is key to keep up your sleep hygiene. Experts recommend washing your bedding every one to two weeks to clean it properly.

If you’re someone who is prone to allergies or shares the bed with your pets, washing it more often is advisable.
